And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1st Corinthians 13:13
I love to cook. It is a joy of mine. A simple way I can give to another and edible version of my love and concern. But what I have come to learn about Non-Christians is this: They can cook, as well or better as I. Even without Christ, people can still contribute to a host of charities that really do help the world from a physical standpoint. So what is the difference between what non-Christians can do and the kind of love to which God calls His children? It is demonstrated through Jesus Christ, the Author of true love. In essence, it is the absence of self. No judging. No self-righteousness. No searching for wrong motives. Only a proactive extension of the grace that flows to us from our Father's heart. It is the kind of love that takes us beyond simply writing a check or cooking a casserole to entering into another's place of pain with them and embracing them just as they are. Even as Christ comforted the tax collector, protected the prostitute, and healed the hurts of the world's most homely, we, too, reveal our Creator's compassion when we leave comfort zones behind and engage the world around us with real relationships that reconnect them with hope.
